Differences between trace, case, and sequence?

Fabian
edited October 2014 in Process Mining

As far as I understand..

case = a trace that belong to a specific log.

trace = any possible sequence in a process from the initial input place to the final output place.

sequence = a set of activities (that for example meets the firing rules in a WF-net).

However, im not sure about it. Does anybody has a more concrete definition ?

Thanks in advance

  • Hi, Fiban.

Please have a look at the attached file, that should clear your doubts.

    Thank you

  • Hi Manoj, thanks for the reply. I found the image very clear and informative, yet I couldn't find the difference between trace and sequence since they don't appear on it.
