Error on first start of ProM 6.1 - empty list in Package Manager

Hallo out there,

I have a problem when starting ProM for the first time. The Package Manager shows an empty list of not installed packages. Obviously, the tool can't find the package "AllPackages" as defined in the .ini-file (see java exception below). Unfortunately, I have no idea why. I did not change any default settings after installing ProM on my Win XP prof machine.
I typed the URL in my browser, and it worked. So, internet acces does not seem to be the problem.
I also updated java, repeated installing ProM 6.1, restartet ProM several times (each time before that I deleted the file '.ProM61' in my user path).

I have to say that on my win 7 notebook I did not have any problem at all. But,  Is there any difference between the 2 operating systems concerning the configuration?

Can anybody help me?

Thank you very much
Frank

  • additional information: The notebook installation was done at home with a direct dsl connection. In contrast to that, the problem appears with internet connection via proxy. I already contacted our system admin. But, up to now, no constraints responsible for the observed error could be identified.

    Hi Frank123,

    Welcome on the forum!
I'm sorry that your first experience with ProM 6 is not a good one but I'm sure we can get this fixed.

First, could you check if the discussion below helps you? I indeed think that the proxy is the problem here if it does not allow applications to access the internet. Could also be the windows firewall or windows security policy...

Otherwise, could you try the following work-around?
    http://www.win.tue.nl/promforum/discussion/160/manual-package-installation

If this solves you issue, could you mark this reply as  the solution? This helps us keep track of open questions.
    Otherwise, please let us know!

  • Hi Buijs,

    thanks for your reply.
I'm going to check this within the next days.

    Cheers, Frank
  • Hi Joos (sorry for the name confusion before!),

    problem is solved, so far.
    The manual package installation worked.

    Thank you!

  • Hey everyone,

just wanted to share some observation I made: in my case it wasn't only ProM for which it seemed that I don't have internet access but also Eclipse (both being Java applications). After some time I stumbled upon a hint which made the thing work for me...

I added the following command to the batch-file: -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true

    Such that it became:
    java -ea -Xmx1G -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -classpath ProM63.jar org.processmining.contexts.uitopia.UI

Hope that helped anyone for the future!

    Cheers, Johannes
