Real and Synthetic Event Logs

Hello everyone,
sorry for the simple question but what is the difference between Real life Event Logs and Synthetic Event Logs? I have examples at https://data.4tu.nl/repository/collection:event_logs_real and https://data.4tu.nl/repository/collection:event_logs_synthetic but I don't know what differences exist to differentiate one from the other.

  • Hi,

Real life event logs are event logs that were retrieved from a real life running system. As a result, this is data you can encounter in real life. They are typically rich in data (many attributes).

Synthetic event logs have been created (by a researcher, typically) from a synthetic model. Any noise in such log has been deliberately put into it. Such log typically has only a restricted set of attributes.

    Kind regards,
    Eric.
